A Halloween dollhouse room: a seasonal scene with reusable pieces
Build a Halloween miniature scene on year-round base pieces, add seasonal accents where they read best and reset the room in November. A measured 1:12 plan.

A Halloween room is usually on display for a few weeks. That is a good reason to build it on furniture that can stay when October ends, and to keep the seasonal pieces few and easy to lift out. The plan above does exactly that: three medieval base pieces set the room, and three Halloween pieces turn it into a scene.
It uses the same illustrative 305 × 254 mm room at 1:12 as our guide to plan a dollhouse room step by step, so the layouts can be compared. The footprints are the measured sizes of six files from our catalogue. The positions and gaps are our choices for this composition, not rules.
Choose a focal scene
A seasonal room reads best when one thing is clearly happening. Here it is a cauldron brewing in front of a great fireplace. The Medieval Stone Fireplace (1) takes the centre of the back wall: at 1:12 its file is 137.6 mm wide and 183.3 mm tall, a tall stone backdrop that stays in place all year. The Witch’s Cauldron on Stone Fire Ring (5) stands on its own ring of stones and logs, so it does not need the hearth. We set it on the fireplace’s axis, 50 mm in front of it, 600 mm full size. The two then read as one scene from the open front. At 40.6 mm tall, the cauldron stays far below the fireplace, so the stone hood remains in view above it.
Everything else supports that view:
- Chest to fireplace: about 38 mm. The Medieval Iron-Bound Chest (2) turns against the left wall in the back corner.
- Fireplace to clock: 23 mm. The Haunted Grandfather Clock (4) stands in the back-right corner. At 175.0 mm tall it is almost as tall as the fireplace, so it closes the back wall rather than competing in the middle of it.
- Cauldron to bench: about 107 mm. The Castle Hall Bench (3) stands against the right wall, level with the cauldron. At 46.8 mm tall it stays below the scene.
- Cauldron to open front: about 104 mm. A clear foreground, with only the Jack-o’-Lantern Pumpkin (6) in the front-left corner, 20 mm from the edge. It is the first thing the viewer sees and the easiest to remove.
Our Halloween collection also has its own fireplace, the Witch’s Crooked Stone Fireplace. Its file is 3.3 mm narrower but 25.4 mm deeper than the medieval one, and it has a skull on the mantel beam and a cauldron inside the opening as part of the same piece. Choose it if the room will be a witch’s cottage all year. For a room that changes with the season, the medieval fireplace is the more flexible base.
Layer seasonal accents
On 29 September 2026 our Halloween collection holds 12 released pieces, all supplied at 1:12 and 1:24. Each is one printed piece, so a motif designed into it stays with it. Sort them before you plan:
- Seasonal by design (10). The pumpkin, the sheet ghost, the witch’s hat, the skull lantern and the raven on a skull are Halloween decorations. The clock, the coffin bookcase, the potion shelf, the crooked fireplace and the haunted wall mirror are furniture, but each carries a bat, a coffin outline, a skull or a small pumpkin as part of the piece.
- Not tied to the season (2). The candle cluster and the cauldron on its fire ring carry no skull, bat, pumpkin or ghost.
Small accents work best on surfaces, where they are seen at eye level and lifted off in one move. The chest’s measured footprint is 108.3 × 45.8 mm at 1:12. The Melted Candle Cluster, the Skull Lantern and the Raven on a Skull together take 81.9 mm of width, and none is deeper than 29.1 mm. They fit on the lid in a row. The lid has chamfered edges, so leave a margin at the front rather than setting anything flush with it.
Stop before every surface is covered. The clock, the cauldron, the pumpkin and the three pieces on the chest already put six pieces from the Halloween collection in a small room. A ghost or a witch’s hat added to the floor would stand in the foreground the viewer looks across.
For the walls, keep the stone fireplace against a plain or quiet background, so its outline reads from the open front. Our Black Cat & Crescent pattern is one of the Halloween designs in our printable wallpapers. Whatever pattern you use, try it behind the clock and the fireplace, the two tallest pieces, before you paper the wall.
Reuse the room after Halloween
When the season ends, lift out pieces 4 to 6 and the small accents. What is left is a hall with a fireplace, a chest and a bench, all from our medieval collection. The chest and the bench are also supplied at 1:6.
The clock’s corner does not have to stay empty. Between the fireplace and the right wall there are 83.7 mm of back wall. The Castle Throne Chair is 71.9 mm wide at 1:12, so it fits there with 11.8 mm to spare. It is 53.1 mm deep, 15.9 mm more than the clock, and it still clears the bench by about 29 mm.
To build that hall out into a full room, see how to reuse a castle-inspired base room: it places the same fireplace, bench and chest with a throne and a door in a measured roombox. For the wider choice of room direction, start from dollhouse interior styles.
Common questions
Which Halloween pieces can stay out after October?
The candle cluster and the cauldron on its fire ring carry no skull, bat, pumpkin or ghost, so they can sit in a candlelit or medieval room all year. The other ten carry a Halloween motif as part of the single printed piece. In the plan, the fireplace, chest and bench come from our medieval collection and are not seasonal.
Can I build this Halloween room at 1:24?
Yes. All six files in the plan are supplied at 1:24 as well as 1:12. Halve every measurement: the room becomes 152.5 × 127 mm and the clear space in front of the fireplace 25 mm.
Is there a matching Halloween wallpaper?
Yes: our Black Cat & Crescent pattern is a printable wallpaper for 1:12 and 1:24, sold as a digital download on Etsy. You print it on paper at home.
