Hedgerow Folk Posy
Black

I wanted this paper to look like the flowers painted on an old folk cupboard: tulip buds, five-dot flowers and heart-shaped leaves gathered into little posies on a soft black ground.

Each posy has three stems tied at the base and is perfectly symmetrical; about twelve of them share a tile, set in a half-drop so they step down the wall in neat rows. The colours are the painted-furniture ones, tomato red, cobalt blue, mustard and olive, in flat colour and bold simple shapes, with dotted stems, cream dots and white dot highlights. I see it in a farmhouse kitchen with a dresser and a scrubbed table, or in a bedroom that wants warmth and a bit of colour.
