Hedgerow Folk Posy
Cream Red Blue

On a warm cream ground I wanted these folk posies to be as cheerful as the flowers on a painted bedroom chest: tulip buds, five-dot flowers and heart-shaped leaves in tomato red, cobalt blue, mustard and olive.

Each little posy is perfectly symmetrical, three dotted stems tied at the base, and about twelve of them sit in a half-drop on every tile, so the rows step gently down the wall. Flat colour, bold simple shapes and white dot highlights, as on painted furniture, with the cream keeping everything light. I picture it in a dollhouse bedroom with a painted bed and a rag rug, or in a farmhouse kitchen that likes a sunny wall.
