I wanted a stone with real drama: polished black marble crossed by warm gold and cream veins that drift in loose parallel bands.
Three long veins cross the sheet on a slow diagonal, with thin offshoots, and each one that leaves an edge comes back in at the same point on the opposite side, so the marble runs on with no visible seam. I kept the colour and density even right up to the borders, with no blotch that would betray the repeat. Black, warm gold, cream and bronze, with fine crystalline detail, seen flat. I see it on a fireplace hearth, in an Art Deco hall or in a glamorous bathroom.
