I wanted the smallest, sweetest flower I could find for a nursery wall: tiny rosebuds, some half-open, each with two pointed leaves and a curled stem, in blush pink and rose on white.
About forty sprigs sit in a calm half-drop grid, tilted left and right in turn, with wide white spaces between them. Blush pink, rose and sage green in flat gouache-style colour, crisp-edged, with a slightly naive line and no shading. I picture it in a cottage dollhouse nursery beside a little cot, and it is just as gentle in a bedroom or a bathroom.
