I wanted a wall that climbs like a garden fence in June: sweet peas and honeysuckle winding upward on curling tendrils over a soft leaf-green ground.
Five trails rise side by side through the whole height of the repeat, each wandering a little as it goes, with small oval leaves along the way, so the stripes feel grown rather than drawn. White, sweet-pea pink, mauve and pale yellow in a flat gouache look with crisp edges and a slightly naive touch, light against the green. I see it in a cottage dollhouse bedroom beside a window seat, and it leads the eye up a narrow hallway just as well.
