I wanted the flowers of a spring window box on a wall: small violets and pansies with heart-shaped leaves, scattered over cream with their faces turned every which way.
About fifty flowers share each tile in a loose ditsy toss, so no two neighbours look the same way. Violet, purple, yellow and a soft green on the cream, in flat colour with crisp edges and a slightly naive gouache touch. I picture it in a cottage bathroom with a claw-foot tub, or a small bedroom under the eaves.
