I wanted a band of Portuguese-style tiles for the lower part of a miniature wall: blue, yellow and white tiles, each with a four-petal flower and diagonal scrolls, four of them meeting to form a star medallion.
The repeat is straight; the sheets butt edge to edge and the pattern carries on with no visible join. Cobalt blue and saffron yellow on a white glaze, with confident brushstrokes, a slightly uneven glaze and thin even grout lines, seen flat with no shine or shadow. I picture it as a tiled dado in a Mediterranean dollhouse kitchen; it also dresses a bathroom or the risers of a staircase.
