For this colourway I wanted a gentler Halloween, one that can stay up longer than a single night: the same sitting black cats, backs turned or side-on with curled tails, with crescent moons and small stars in black and mustard on a pale lilac ground.
About eight motifs share each repeat in a half-drop, staggered row by row and turned in alternating directions, with generous plain lilac between them. The look is flat gouache: crisp edges, a slightly naive brush, no gradients and no shading. I see it in a dollhouse living room beside the fireplace or a reading chair, and it works in a kitchen too.
