Pumpkin Lantern Lattice
Midnight

I wanted a Halloween wall lit by lanterns: friendly carved pumpkin lanterns, each one sitting in its own diamond of twisting vines, on a near-black charcoal ground.

Every lantern has simple triangle eyes and a wide smile, and the thin leafy vines cross to frame one pumpkin per diamond. Pumpkin orange, cream and olive green sit in flat colour with crisp edges, like an old block-printed paper of two or three inks. I see it in a dollhouse kitchen on Halloween night, where the dark ground makes every orange face shine.
