Bramble Hedge
Cream

I wanted a hedgerow in late August, when the brambles hang heavy: trailing branches with white blossoms, ripe black berries and red ones still to come, wandering over a warm cream ground.

The branches meander on the diagonal and overlap lightly, with curling tendrils and tiny thorns, the berries placed as little accents so the cream still shows through. Olive leaves, white blossom and black-purple and red berries in clean outlines and flat colour, in the Arts and Crafts style. I see it in a dollhouse study lined with books, and it gives a dining room or a living room the same warm, autumnal calm.
