I wanted the patterned cement tile floors of old kitchens and cafés: four tiles that meet to form one round flower, framed by a small square.
Each tile carries a quarter of the rosette, so the medallion only appears when four of them come together, two by two, in a straight layout. Charcoal and warm grey on a cream ground, in the slightly chalky, matt colours of cement, with thin even grout lines between the tiles. I picture it in a farmhouse kitchen, a small bathroom or the floor of a dollhouse café.
