I wanted a floor that makes an entrance: black-and-white cement tiles where quarter shapes at each corner come together, four tiles at a time, into a bold eight-point star.
The repeat is straight; the sheets butt edge to edge and the pattern carries on with no visible join. Black, off-white and pale grey on white, with crisp tile edges, thin even grout lines and a matt cement finish, seen flat with no shine or shadow. I picture it in a dollhouse entry hall, and just as much in a modern farmhouse kitchen or a bathroom.
