I wanted a Christmas damask that stays elegant: instead of the usual scrolling leaves, the medallion is built from fir sprigs, perfectly symmetrical, with a small star at its heart.
It uses two inks only, antique gold on a dark evergreen ground, in flat colour like a block-printed damask. Each tile holds one large medallion whole and four quarters at the corners, so the medallions fall in a half-drop across the wall. I see it in a dollhouse dining room set for the Christmas meal, or lining a hall where the gold warms the dark green.
