Robin & Rosehip
Frost Blue

I wanted a winter wall with a little life on it: small robins perched on rosehip sprigs and bare twigs, their red breasts glowing against a pale frost blue.

Each sprig is its own small motif, about eight to a tile, set in staggered rows that turn left and right, with generous frost-blue ground in between so the birds never crowd each other. The colours are robin red, brown, rosehip red and white, in flat gouache-style colour with crisp edges, a slightly naive brush and no shading. I imagine it in a dining room laid for a winter dinner, or in a calm bedroom.
