I wanted a wall that looks like a warm winter jumper: knitted Fair Isle bands of snowflakes, small reindeer and zigzags in red and dark green on cream.
Three kinds of band are stacked across the tile, and each one repeats exactly from edge to edge, so the rows run on without a break. The stitches are large and clearly visible, like real wool, yet the colours stay flat and clean. I imagine it in a dollhouse bedroom for the cold months, or a living room with a quilt on the sofa and snow at the windows.
