I wanted the comfort of a gingham tablecloth on a wall: a blue and white check with tiny pink rosebuds and sage leaves tossed across it.
There are about twenty buds on each tile, scattered loosely so the check stays the main note and the flowers feel picked rather than placed. The check looks woven and the buds look painted in gouache, which gives the paper two textures in one. I see it in a dollhouse country nursery or a farmhouse kitchen.
