For Slate Navy I wanted the thistles to glow against the dark: lilac heads and sage leaves standing out on a deep slate-navy ground, with small bluebells tucked between the stems.
It is the same upright design, about sixteen thistles to a repeat in a half-drop, with spiky bracts and spiny leaves in flat colour and clean outlines, lifted with touches of cream. The navy ground gives the walls weight and makes the lilac look lighter than it is. I imagine it in a dollhouse study by lamplight, or in a bathroom that wants a darker, calmer wall.
