I wanted a Christmas paper with a darker, grown-up mood: holly leaves, red berries and trailing ivy winding over a black ground.
The trail runs all over the tile and covers roughly half of it, so the black shows between the leaves and gives the greens and reds their depth. Just two colours on the black, green and red, in flat colour with crisp edges and a slightly naive gouache touch. I picture it in a dollhouse living room dressed for Christmas, with candles on the mantel and a tree in the corner.
