I wanted the colours of a harvest evening: small pumpkins and gourds on curling vines, glowing against a dark brown ground.
Some twenty-five motifs are tossed across each tile in a half-drop, with no rows to catch the eye. Orange, mustard and olive are laid flat with crisp edges and a slightly naive brush, like gouache, and the deep brown makes them warm. I picture it in a dollhouse living room by the fire, or in an autumn kitchen.
