I wanted the calm of a stone-flagged hall: large square limestone flags, honed rather than polished, in a pale warm grey.
Each repeat holds four flags, two by two, laid straight with fine light joints, and no two flags are quite the same tone. Pale limestone, warm grey, cream and a soft ochre, with a subtle surface grain and faint fossil flecks, seen perfectly flat. I see it in a hall with a grandfather clock, a country kitchen or an orangery full of citrus trees.
