I wanted a stone floor with the calm of an old orangery: warm travertine flags in four sizes, laid in a Versailles pattern.
The four sizes, from a small square to a long rectangle, are all built on one module and lock together so that no cross joint runs on in a straight line; about twelve flags fit in each repeat. The stone is cream, honey beige, sand and soft grey, honed and seen flat, with a subtle grain and the small natural pores of travertine. The sheets butt edge to edge with no visible join. I see it in a dollhouse kitchen, a garden room or an orangery.
