For the evening version of my fir forest, I turned the ground to deep forest green and let the little trees shine in gold, cream and red.
It is the same small forest: stylised firs in staggered rows, some bare, some hung with round baubles and a star on top, with open ground between them so the shapes stay bold at a glance. The colours are flat and crisp, with a slightly naive, gouache-like brush, and the dark green gives the room a warm, candlelit feeling. I picture it in a dollhouse bedroom on Christmas Eve, or in a small sitting room by the fire.
