I wanted a 1940s seaside hotel in full afternoon sun: banana leaves, fan palms and bird-of-paradise flowers overlapping on a soft blush-pink ground, with a few hibiscus among them.
The leaves are large and cover most of the paper, set in a half-drop so the wall never settles into rows. Emerald, teal, coral and cream in flat colour, each shade a hair off its outline the way an old print drifts slightly out of register. Pink and green together feel playful and sunny; I see it in a dollhouse living room with a bamboo sofa, and it makes a sunroom or a bedroom feel like a holiday.
