I wanted Old Palm Parlour to carry the holiday-hotel feeling of the 1940s: big banana leaves and fan palms overlapping on a cream ground, with bird-of-paradise flowers and a few hibiscus tucked in between.
The leaves cover most of the paper and sit in a half-drop, so no stiff rows show on the wall. I kept the palette of old printed paper, banana green, teal, coral and mustard in flat colour, each shade sitting a hair off its outline the way a slightly offset print does. I picture it in a bright dollhouse sunroom, and it brings the same holiday air to a living room or a bedroom.
