I wanted the floor of a seaside cottage: plain boards painted matt white, with the wood grain still showing faintly through the paint.
Six boards run across each repeat, with one or two staggered butt joints in every row and soft grey joints between the boards. Chalk white, soft grey and a faint beige grain, in a matt, chalky paint seen perfectly flat, for the calm painted-board look of a Scandinavian or cottage interior. I picture it in a dollhouse beach cottage, a nursery or a bathroom with tongue-and-groove panelling.
