I wanted this colourway to feel like candlelight at dinner: dark red fan scallops on an oxblood ground, each palmette and engraved line picked out in antique gold.
The scales overlap in offset rows like roof tiles and cover the whole wall, a palmette centred in each, drawn in flat colour with fine linework like a Victorian printed paper. With red on red, the gold lines do all the talking. Its repeat is very slightly oblong. I see it in a dining room with dark wood and a laid table.
