I wanted the kind of floor you step onto at the front door of a Victorian house: small squares and triangles in slate blue, cream, black and soft red, set into a chequered diamond block.
The repeat is straight; the sheets butt edge to edge and the pattern carries on with no visible join. Cream clay ground, crisp tile edges, thin even grout lines and a matt unglazed look, seen flat with no shine or shadow. I picture it in a Victorian dollhouse hall, and it is at home in a bathroom or a conservatory too.
